Case study: UCL Global Engagement - case studies

UCL has been a regular client since 2014, and I have worked on a range of copywriting, communications and website projects for the university.

I have worked with UCL Global Engagement (GE) on various ad hoc projects, and in 2022 the team approached me to write a series of case studies. GE has a raft of small funding options available to researchers who want to partner with institutions and academics in other countries. The aim of the case studies was to promote how recipients of the Global Engagement Funds (GEF) used their awards. Not only would this highlight the breadth of international work GE supports, but also help encourage other researchers to apply for available funding.

I started with a series of six case studies. For each one, I interviewed the relevant researcher, and then used this to write up a case study according to house style, incorporating a number of direct quotes to bring the subject matter to life. I also sourced an image and wrote a social media post for each case study.

I received excellent feedback from the UCL Global Engagement team and minimal edits, which led to them commissioning me to write a further 10 case studies. After several case studies had been published in 2022, the team found that applications from researchers for GEF increased by 50% compared to the previous year, citing the case studies as a key driver for this increase.

“We were extremely happy with the case studies that Sasha produced for us, which really brought to life the difference seed funding can make to UCL’s international collaborations. Sasha was brilliant to work with: organised, proactive and reliable, and she produced high quality work that made a real difference to our campaign. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend working with her.”
